The book aims to understand issues and challenges of gender equality of contemporary India. Over the past decades, gender equality has been explicitly recognised as key to the social and economic development. At the household level, disempowerment of women results in their lowered access to resources such as education, employment and income, and limits their power over decision making and freedom of movement. Despite the fact that gender inequalities have diminished in some aspects of life, they remain deeply rooted in others.
